Yamagata variety is very early. It ripens in Florida in March-April when no other varieties produce fruit. Fruit is large, pear-shaped, with a small seed and green skin. It is a very fine, gourmet Hawaiian avocado named for agriculture specialist Heiji Yamagata, who develeoped it. According to University of Hawaii consumer poll, Yamagata was selected as one of the best Hawaiian cultivars. Medium to low cold hardiness. Very vigorous and upright growing tree.

Double Red is a classic tropical hibiscus known for its rich, velvety red flowers and continuous bloom. In TopTropicals garden this variety showed pretty strong cold tolerance (at least to light freeze) similar to cold hardy H. syriacus. It is often referred to as H. Althea, H. Carambola (Starfruit) var Arkin. One of the leading commercial cultivars with 4-5" long fruit with small wings. Bright yellow to yellow-orange skin and flesh. Flesh is firm, very sweet, and juicy with few seeds.
Small symmetrical tree. Fruits very prolifically. Fruit is star-shaped when cut across the middle. It has a sweet, watery, slightly acid, pleasant tasting pulp. Eaten fresh, in salads, as garnishes, in drinks or preserved. Mature trees may survive light frost but young trees must be protected from frost and especially - wind. The plant will fruit in container even when in small size (2-3 ft). Season: August - March.

Mexican Bird of Paradise (Dwarf poinciana)- a showy shrub with fragrant flowers for a small yard or container. Drought tolerant, cold hardy to light freeze.
Plant seeds in 1/2" depth of well drained soil mix. Keep warm, damp and in bright light.

Weeping red Bottlebrush. Callistemon citrinus (Melaleuca citrina). Medium size tree with arching or weeping stems and showy bright red flowers. Cold tolerant, drought resistant. Fast growing, great solution for privacy planting.

Giant granadilla. Fast growing vine which can grow over 50ft in a single season. Fruit forms best after self-pollination. Fruit is eaten fresh or used in drinks. The unripe, green fruit is eaten as a vegetable.
Cover seeds with 1/2" well-drained soil mix, keep warm, damp (not wet) and in bright light.

Sapodilla Oxkutzcab (or Ox) - "gigantic sapodilla" - is originally from Oxkutzcab (Yucatan). Extremely large (up to 28 oz), roundish fruit with speckled, light-colored skin. Flesh is brown, with excellent taste. Heavily productive tree. Producing heavy crops from May to September.

Firewheel Tree. The dark, glossy green leaves may be entire or lobed and up to 1.5 ft long. The spectacular "firwheel" flower clusters are seen in summer through to autumn. Despite its sub-tropical to tropical origin, S.sinuatus is adaptable to a range of climates and will even succeed in dry climates if additional water is available.

Jamaica Tea flower (Karkade, Roselle) - "Agua de Flor de Jamaica", also called agua de Jamaica and rosa de Jamaica, is popular in Jamaica, Mexico, Central America, and parts of South America and the Caribbean. It is one of beverages made from fresh juices or extracts. It is served chilled, and in Jamaica this drink is a tradition on Christmas, served with fruit cake or potato pudding.
In Panama both the flowers and the drink are called saril (a derivative of the Jamaican word sorrel).
In the United States, hibiscus tea was popularized as "Red Zinger". Flowers are used to make a cold or hot tea sweetened with sugar. There has been some Medical studies which indicate that it lowers high blood pressure and also has diuretic effects. The flavor is on the tart side similar to a cranberry juice. In Mexico, it is also used for granites, ice pops and sangria.

Cotton Candy - Mallow Hibiscus flowers open pure white and change color over a three-day period until they are deep pink and then as they die assume a dark "blue-pink" hue. The three distinct colors appear on the bush simultaneously as the blooms color cycle independent of one another. Quite large blossoms are up to 5 inches across!

This is the one of most useful trees in the world - Olive tree, originated in Mediterranean. Produces wonderful tasting fruit as does the others in the Cavendish sub-group. A vigorous grower with wide green leaves. One of the more common grown varieties in the USA. This particular cultivar has found great flavor in Florida as a backyard banana because of its ability to reliably produce fruit with a minimum of care by the homeowner. Cavendish are the most common variety of bananas grown by the hobbyist. The variety is very hardy and produces very large heads of fruit. The dwarf variety, which grows to 8 feet, is the most common backyard variety. The fruit is excellent tasting and can remain on the plant until ripe.

Florigon is a fiberless, disease resistant, early season cultivar that is extremely popular with dooryard growers for its quality, consistency, and precocity. The flesh is firm with a deep yellow color and mild flavor. The fruit ripens from late May-July. See more info about Mango varieties.

Condo mango. Alampur Baneshan originated in South India and is considered as one of the finest dessert mangoes in the country. The fruit are large, averaging 14 to 16 oz. They are oblique-oblong. The skin color is green, even when ripe, and is overlaid with characteristic corky dots covering the fruit surface. As with most other fine dessert mangoes of India, it is best harvested hard-green and ripened at room temperature. In this manner one can expect an exceptional, multi-leveled flavor, from the deep and resinous to the intensely sweet. This is a mango for the true connoisseur, not the beginner, as its flavor could prove to be overpowering to the unaccustomed palate. The fruit are uncommon outside of India and it is improbable that they will enter into international export markets.

Very rare white powder-puff. Large bushy shrub with spectacular white flowers during spring-summer. The plant is relatively cold hardy. Fast growing.

Low-Chill Peach. Medium-size fruit, purple outside, yellow-orange inside. It requires about 150 of chill hours. Perfect for Zone 9-10. Excellent flavor, ripens mid-May. Self-pollinating.

Early season peach designed to flourish in warm climates. Red-yellow skin with very sweet yellow flesh. Ripens early-May. Self-pollinating.

Medinilla has bright pink flowers and can be grown as a small shrub or a potted plant. Very tropical-looking exotic plant.

This Black colocasia is a must for black plant fanatics. It has large matte black, heart shaped leaves on black/purple leaf stalks. As with most elephant ears, moist soil and high nutrition are the keys to great specimens. In shade leaves turn dark green. Once moved to bright sun, they turn back to black. In cooler subtropical climates leaves die back and the plant emerges from a rhizome in spring.

Lady of the night. Medium size bush with large white or cream-colored flowers, which are very fragrant after dark. Shade tolerant plant, can be grown in container and as indoor plant. Can take some freeze for short time.
