Philippine violet. Grows into a shapely shrub with minimal pruning. The purple trumpet-shaped flowers openin in terminal clusters. This is an easy-to-grow shrub, about 3ft height, which can be used for a garden hedge or tightly clipped into geometrical shapes. Takes both sun and shade, it requires some more sun to flower profusely and occasional pruning to promote bushy growth.

Blue Plumbago, Cape Leadwort. Unusual blue color for tropics! Blooms all year round with denser blooms from March to November. Plumbago is popular in both tropical and sub-tropical gardens because of its delicate blue flowers, it is seen often as a low plant used for hedges. It tolerates both drought and poor soil, grows best if it is heavily pruned from time to time, even cut back to the ground.

Chaa-plu, Vietnamese Pepper, Lalot,Wild Betel. Eaten raw in salads or cooked with other greens or dishes, or wrap meats and cook in oven or on stove or grill. It is used medicinally in India and South China as well as Indonesia for feverish diseases, for digestive disorders, and toothache, to treat pain in the bones. When the root is chewed with betel nut, it is said to be helpful for the treatment of coughs and asthma. The leaves are used as food (food wraps) in Vietnam.

This mango is very similar to the Haden, only better! It has the same flavor with the Haden, with less fiber. The fruit are also bigger and less prone to fungus problems. Pick when you see the base of the fruit turning yellow. Eat before fruit gets too ripe. Best cold tolerance.

Sweet Mimosa. One of the most useful tropical plants that is very cold tolerant, blooms all winter through spring with honey-fragrant flowers - canary yellow powder puffs, attracting bees and butterflies. This is a large size, multi-stem thorny shrub 15x15 ft that requires some space. It is very fast growing, can be used as a good screen plant. It will bring you joy with pretty flowers and sweet fragrance even during freeze snaps when other trees lose leaves and suffer. This one will continue blooming and stays evergreen - a real survivor! Tolerates poor soils and drought too. Provide regular water to establish quicker.

Firecracker fern, Coral plant. Bright red flowers. Low-growing shrub, distinctive for its long, drooping, usually leafless stems and the almost continuous clusters of small tubular flowers. Each plant produces many branches and is particularly effective when grown in a raised bed or rock garden so that the flower-laden stems hang down. Attractive to butterflies and hummingbirds. White-leaved variety of Zebra Plant - gets its name from white stripes on the leaves. It is one of the best house plants. This plant is not only pretty because of its white-veined foliage, but also for the apical inflorescence with its beautiful yellow bracts.

Rare gardenia from Africa with blooms sporadically year round. Covered with flowers when in bloom. Strong fragrance, unusually shaped leaves. There has been a long discussion regarding proper classification of Gardenia nitida and (or?) posoqueria. In some sources, they are considered synonyms. Both species have highly star-like tubular flowers with nearly intoxicating scent.
Gardenia nitida and posoqueria seem to be 2 different varieties. G. nitida is the most common kind, with slightly smaller leaves, and flowers coming in clusters. G. posoqueria has longer single flowers, and leaves are much larger, lush and elongated.

Red Cassia, Ceylon Senna. Graceful tree with spreading, drooping branches appearing to be overweighted by its wealth of clustering red blossoms. Has alternate pinnate leaves in pairs with colored margins which further enhance the appearance.

Jamaica Caper Tree, Mustard Tree. Jamaica caper produces large quantities of flowers with white petals and many purple stamens, which extend beyond the petals. Fruit are slender, rust-colored pods which split open to expose orange-red seeds. The dense, strong Jamaica caper is very wind resistant and extremely salt tolerant.

Verawood. Beautiful large specimen tree with bright golden-yellow to orange flowers. Drought tolerant once established. Needs good drainage, but tolerates poor soils. Great shade tree.

Red Kapok tree is a remarkable tree with spectacular display of bright red flowers, which bloom during the spring season. The flowers are large, showy, and have a sweet fragrance, making them popular with birds and insects. The tree's blossoms are also used in traditional medicine for their medicinal properties.

Dwarf Golden Tabebuia. A sparse crowned small to medium tree with large heads of golden yellow flowers. Good choice for a small garden or potting culture.

Panama red Passion fruit. A hybrid passionfruit that is vigorous and more tropical than others. The large fruit has attractive red skin and crops very heavily from Autumn through to Spring. Delicious fruit, flavor is appealing, musky, guava-like, acid. Great for drinks. Vigorous fast growing vine that is relatively cold tolerant.

It is one of the strangest tropical fruits. The miracle is that if lemon or other sour food is eaten after the miracle fruit, the sour tastes sweet, as if sugar has been added.
