RARE MAGNOLIAS - HARDY FRAGRANT BEAUTIES

Magnolia sprengeri var. Diva
Rich deep pink flowers, streaked with white and pink inside. It is a spreading deciduous tree with large dark green leaves, and is grown for its fragrant, cup-shaped flowers. These are 6" across and have 12-15 petals. It flowers in mid-spring, before the leaves emerge. Cold hardy to zone 7.

Magnolia x loebneri
Loebner magnolia. This vigorous, erect tree grows from 20 to 30 feet tall and has star-shaped flowers with 15 broad white petals blushed with pink. The blossoms are fragrant and appear before the leaves in early to mid-spring. Hardiness: zone 7-8.

Magnolia ashei
The rarest species of Magnolia in the flora; it is in danger of extirpation because of habitat disturbance, native of North America. This spreading deciduous shrub or small tree has large, light-green glossy leaves to 2 feet long. It flowers in early summer with jasmine- and citrus-scented blossoms in white with maroon markings at the base. Each flower is up to 10 inches across. Flowers at an early age 3-4 years from seed).

Magnolia dawsoniana
Very rare in cultivation! This beautiful species is native to the provinences of Sichuan and Yunnan in China. It is a small, ornamental deciduous tree. The white to reddish flowers are large (6-10" wide), fragrant, and appear before leaves. Cold hardy to zone 6.

Magnolia zenii
Zen's magnolia. Like so many other rare Chinese plants, it is endemic to one mountainside in China, the north slopes of Mt. Boa-hua. The flowers are extremely fragrant.
Cold hardy to zone 7.

Magnolia cylindrica
Magnolia cylindrica is an erect tree, developing a short stem with a small crown, usually roundish. Flowers in the spring with large, pure white fragrant blossoms. It doesn't keep leaves in the winter. Hardy to zone 7.
