The PEACH (Prunus persica) is all-time favorite for all nations, for children and adults. Before it has been considered more temperate plant that requires many chill hours in order to bloom and fruit profusely. However, a low-chill varieties had been selected through a breeding program started in 1953 by the University of Florida. Low-chill Peach varieties will grow and produce fruit in Central and South Florida. The fruit quality is excellent. The trees are deciduous and lose their leaves each winter, but they are highly ornamental small trees with pretty flowers in spring making them an excellent choice for the home garden.
