Philippine violet. Grows into a shapely shrub with minimal pruning. The purple trumpet-shaped flowers openin in terminal clusters. This is an easy-to-grow shrub, about 3ft height, which can be used for a garden hedge or tightly clipped into geometrical shapes. Barleria repens South Africa - Small Bush Violet, Pink Creeper. This essential oil is distilled from the leaves and is used in perfumes. A type of cologne named 'Bay Rum' was historically made in the early 20th century by distilling the oil using rum and water, hence the common name of the plant. Silky, pink-white, powder-puff-like flowers appear during the summer months. The fine foliage is an attractive mid-green color.
