The most popular of the Abelias. An evergreen or semi-evergreen shrub with a rounded, fountain-like growth habit. Fast-growing to 4-8 ft tall and 4-6 ft wide. Fine-textured, glossy, oval, dark green leaves, 2 inches long. New growth has bronze color. Prolific, tiny white with pink sepals tubular flowers (less than 1 inch long) in clusters at stem ends, from summer to fall some times longer. Flowers are slightly fragrant.

This vigorous, heat-tolerant, and nearly indestructible vine is suited to a variety of applications. It can be grown as a loose groundcover or planted on banks for erosion control. It also grows quickly on a trellis, fence, or other framework, providing a fast wind screen or source of shade. The vine blooms heavily in spring and to some extent year round. It's easy to grow and nearly indestructible. The flashy and fragrant flowers will attract hummingbirds and butterflies all summer long. The resulting fruit of the Honeysuckle flower will provide a fall treat for your local songbirds as well. Many honeysuckles will thrive in containers.

Deciduous or semideciduous vine or small shrub, up to 12 feet tall. Believed to be a hybrid between Lonicera x americana and Lonicera sempervirens. It is valued for the long blooming period and the bright colors of its flowers.Honeysuckle prefers full sun, but will tolerate partial sun, and even some light, afternoon shade. Once established, Honeysuckle needs only moderate watering, unless the summer is very dry. If the planting area is properly prepared and mulched, your Honeysuckle will be satisfied with a light annual applicaton of a balanced fertilizer at the beginning of the growing season, and then once again in the middle of the blooming season.
